  First Full Backup
Everything pre-existing in the targeted directories is backed up during the first, ‘full’ backup Depending up on the amount of data to be backed up and the available Internet connection, this may take a considerable amount of time.
Daily Scheduled backups
After the initial backup PCFort will only backup new and changed data. If you have a considerable amount of data to secure, like daily email system backup, you can choose to use the ‘backup window’ feature, which will ‘turn off’ the backup process during your working day.
What is the backup window?
As the backup process can take processing power it may be desirable to have backups occur outside of the hours of normal computer use. You can set the backup start time and a ‘backup window,’ after which the software will enter a ‘sleep’ mode until the window opens again.
What if the amount of data to be backed up exceeds the daily backup window?
PCFort will backup all the files in the buffer zone when the backup window closes. It will then pick up the backup at the next queued file when the window opens again. You will be notified if the backup requirement exceeds the available window on the daily backup report.
What happens if my Internet connection goes down during a backup?
If your Internet connection dies during a backup PCFort will wait until the connection is restored and complete the transmission of the file in transit. You are assured of a secure backup as two separate data checks take place before a file is classed as properly backed up.
Do I have to start the nightly backups myself?
The backups take place automatically according to the schedule you create. We recommend scheduling a backup every day, so that PCFort will check for new or changed files.
Can I stop a backup?
You can stop a backup at any time by pressing the stop button. The software will complete the transmission of the file currently in the buffer before stopping the process, so please be patient as this may take a few moments.
How do I check my backups?
Every day you will receive an email with a link to your backup log. Clicking on the backup log link will display the statistical data about your backups and what is currently stored in your archive.
Are my files kept forever?
PCFort is a professional service. You choose to delete files when they are no longer of use to you. You have the option of removing files from the backup server that no longer exist on your local computer, but that is a user initiated process.
Will PCFort keep more than one copy of files that change?
PCFort will retain up to 3 versions of files that change. It will not retain extraneous versions of the same file. Every day that a file is changed will count as a changed file. When a forth version is logged for archiving, it is secured and then the oldest copy is deleted from the back up.
Is the data compressed?
The PCFort software will compress files before transmission. WIndows XP customers should make sure that the operating system is set to NOT compress files. This will allow PCFort to handle the compression in the most efficient way possible.
